Waimea Chess Club

A group of children and adults are gathered around a large outdoor chessboard with oversized black and white chess pieces. Some children are actively engaged in moving the pieces, while others observe. The setting is a grassy area near a sidewalk with a mural-painted building in the background. A green plastic chair is placed nearby. The atmosphere appears casual and social, with people enjoying a game of chess in an outdoor community space.

The Waimea Chess Club is a project of WPA. For several years the Club has met at WPA on Monday afternoons to learn and enjoy the centuries-old game. Occasionally and during community events, the 20-foot square chessboard outside is set up and the oversize pieces are in play. The Club is regrouping at present and we’re looking for volunteers.

A flyer for the Waimea Chess Club features a stylized painting of people playing chess outdoors under blooming trees. The text below announces that the club meets every Monday from 4 PM to 5 PM at Waimea Historic Corner next to the Fire House Gallery. It invites people of all ages and skill levels to join. The website "www.waimeachess.com" is listed, and the event is hosted by the Waimea Preservation Association. A QR code is present at the bottom right corner.
